I know there are people out there that work from home and it is all legitimate, but I just don’t know how to go about finding these legitimate jobs. I am looking for something like data entry or typist. I am not looking to start my own business or anything like that. I also looked into paid survey but they all look like scams. I have done lots of research on this but have come up with nothing.
I am a mother of two small children and would love to make some extra money to help with bills and whatnot, and with daycare being so expensive it is not easy to find a job in a small town that will cover daycare cost, to a point that will be worth going to work. LOL
What I am asking is if there is anyone out there that is actually working from home, what they did to get started, how it works, how you get paid and is it worth it? I would love any advice given. Thanks so much.
You should take a look at http://www.squidoo.com/typingathome there are some great programs there. Lots of information and some good reviews. Its worth a look . Good luck

I’ve been doing some work with http://www.elance.com the past week, all the work is home based, data entry, transcription etc. The only thing is you’re competing against people from countries where the hourly rate of pay is a lot lower, so not sure if it would be worth it for you.
Also have a look at the jobs listed here, most are appicable to us,canada, europe, its quite good, thats where I found the above link.

Its been updated today to include some Craft type jobs which can be done from home, mainly re-distribution, but it possible to make good money from it if you work hard.
So many online jobs are out there. In fact, to do any online job, you need not want to invest anything. Make sure, you dont pay anything to get jobs online. It is just that need to pick the one that suits you the best. I hope this helps you and–>I believe you will find the online job that you love the most. Thanks

Hi smexii -
I work from home, but I earned a college degree in a field that I can put out a shingle and work from home – after I worked for someone else and got the experience first. I am a CPA and it has worked out very well. I have computers, software, and hand out my business card. My money is "extra" money, so I don’t have to stress, and I am home with my 3 children. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
My advise to you is just be careful – so many of the work from home sites, and even ads in the paper, are total scams. I almost got caught in one. I found it in the paper, and it was to find people that were due some type of HUD refund. Well, my question was, why hasn’t HUD found these people? Maybe they are unable to be found? Then, if you do find them, what will cause them to use you (pay you) to get their refund when they can just get it themselves (for free)?! Then the girl on the phone wanted me to send $75 for the materials I needed to get started. I told her "I don’t think so", and asked her for their website. I typed it into Google and what I got was a list of numerous complaints about the company and what a scam they were. Needless to say, I didn’t do that!
Maybe some of the other posters are on to something, but I am way too suspicious. I think the best thing is to sell a service that you have a skill for, or place an ad to do errands for people, or to do clerical work from home for an employer in your area…. I know someone who learned how to copy photos onto purses and she makes those on the side. Another person I know loves to bake wonderful things, but she needs to DO something to get it started – to talk to coffee shops about selling her cakes and muffins and baked goods. Or selling it locally from a website. What about doing daycare for a few children? My hestation on that one though, would be a sense of entrapment! What do you do wehn you need a vacation, or want (need) to sleeo in?! But, people do it and make it work, and announce their vacations well in advance and in the contract it states that the Provider gets 2 weeks of paid vacation, what days are Holidays, and so forth.
You need to take a hard look at what you know how to do, what you like to do, what will work, and how to get it going. Just rack your brain and do some serious brainstorming.Talk to friends and family who know you and see what they have to say. This could be a great way for you to really get to know yourself!

I’m a stay at home mom myself and can tell you that finding and landing a work at home job is a long process but completely worth it once you get on with a good employer. Have you been to http://www.wahm.com telecommuting message board yet? It has a wise work at home community that has helped me immensly over the years. I also would suggest that you go to http://workathomedesk.com which is a free site that has a directory of legitimate companies that offer jobs to home workers either as direct employees or independent contractors. Depending on your skills and experience, you should be able to find several leads there. Be aware when you have kids at home it can limit you a little on alot of the phone work opportunities out there because they require a quiet background. But there are ways to work around that like working early in the mornings or late in the evening when they are asleep. Also, you probably won’t find a plain ol’ data entry job as there is a great demand for this type of job. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi there, this is a question lots of people ask and believe me 90% of the replies are scams, either looking for you to give them more information or get you to pay them for an Ebook. I finally had enough of getting up at 6.15am, leaving for work at 7am, a 2 hours drive to work and another 2 hours in the evening, before finally arriving home at the earliest 8pm and its usually closer to 9pm. So I have been researching the genuine work from home opportunities which are available and thought I’d share this information for free with anybody else who’s also interested.
http://www.working-from-home-jobs.com/
I got caught with this at the beginning, I paid $50 for an ebook, but it didnt actually contain any useful information. Basically what they suggested was I re-sell the ebook, so that was their plan for a work at home job, I’d have to convince other people to give me $50. Anyways I wasnt interested in that as a Work from Home job. So hopefully other people won’t make the same mistake as me and waste money like that
Have a look at my blog if interested, I will try to keep it updated daily with useful information. Hope you will find it useful, any questions please send me an email on this, I’ll help if possible. Jim.
